Phase 1 DB 2

Phase 1 DB 2 Rebecca Lyn Oberstadt INTD670-1304B-04 Leadership and Ethical Decision-Making Instructor Maurice Ivy December 12, 2013   Winning Business When it comes to business deals an established connection is always a bonus. Since Joe already has an established connection with this potential client he needs to outbid the next company who is trying to take his business. He has fostered his relationship with this company for the past year. Outbid them by 5 dollars per worker outfit, and now they are trying to counter that offer. I’m sure Joe can do better. Do you? Joe should offer a 12 % discount to up the ante on the 10% discount his competitor is currently offering, its only 2% different; but I would recommend a 2 year or 48 month contract at that price so that this other company cannot come in a year later and try to under bid the company again. At the end of the 2 years they can reevaluate the situation, the economy and the price of materials to make the uniforms and see if they can keep the discounted rate. Joe is willing to do what it takes to keep the business within reason. I think that the virtue approach works best in the different approaches of ethical decision making. It works out since Joe and Bill have a good working relationship and they have a mutual friendship. Also, Bill has supplied many new customers to Joe in the past year that he has done business. They have an established connection and it seems mutually beneficial for both. They both understand each other and work well together, on and off business duties. I feel that using this ethical model best supports the current relationship the two men hold in business and in life. Other people may decide not to bend and or cave and offer a deal or a discount and lose the business. There is another Ethical decision making theory called the Justice Approach. (MUSE, 2013) It states that all people should be treated equally. I feel in this situation though that it would not work in the best interest of both companies to try to keep things equal. I’m sure that Bill wants to see what can benefit him and since this approach uses Equality it won’t work for the situation. I simply would point out what the choices would be for each situation to shoe which perspective is better than the other. I feel the choice I made for Joe is the most beneficial to Bill and Joe keeps a contact and potentially more since Bill likes to refer business. I think any other ethical plan might be the detriment to the company. There may be some compromise with the solution to the problem. The company is making less profit if they offer a 12% discount, but they are guaranteed a customer for 2 solid years with the new contract which means that they can find other and better ways to support this partnership between the two companies. I think that making it a longer contract, upping the competition by 2 percent is just a start they might also look at other alternatives, like a change in colors, or designs for certain types of staff or allowing them the ability to change minor things like tie or kerchief colors for certain ranks. Those may be things that they can work out during the course of the contract to make the deal more feasible. I feel that overall by offering a discount and a longer contract you secure that you keep this client for another 2 years and it gives you a foot up in maybe making more and better partnerships through this company and possibly offering new and exciting changes to their current wardrobe down the road when the contract is renegotiated in the future.   Bibliography Page Bowles, W., Collingridge, M., Curry, S., & Valentine, B.
